Interview: Los Lobos
Thu., May 11, 3:30 pm-5:00 pm
Included with museum admission; Free to museum members.American roots-rock band Los Lobos is celebrating its 50th year, a rare achievement for any musical group but especially unusual considering the band’s longevity. Founders David Hidalgo, Conrad Lozano, Louie Pérez and Cesar Rosas bonded over their shared interest in a wide range of musical styles while attending high school in East Los Angeles. Saxophonist Steve Berlin, the band’s newest member, joined 40 years ago, after co-producing (with T Bone Burnett) the band’s 1983 EP, … And a Time to Dance. After 17 studio albums, seven live albums, scores of contributions to film soundtracks and countless collaborations with other artists, Los Lobos continues to explore and experiment with the connections between traditional Mexican music and American blues, country, folk, soul and Zydeco. Prior to their concert in the museum’s CMA Theater, the band will discuss their ongoing career. Offered in support of the exhibition Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock, presented by City National Bank. Program made possible in part by the Academy of Country Music.
