For this installment of The Tennessee Magazine’s Shutterbug Photography Contest, we wanted to provide our readers with a general theme to allow their imaginations to run rampant in depicting their visions of the Volunteer State. And once again, we were inundated with skillfully executed photographs that portray the entertaining, emotional, heritage-rich stories of the individuals who call Tennessee home.
Subjects ranged from weathered signs and barns that time forgot to present-day farmers carrying on their family traditions of tending the land. Captured outdoor activities and wildlife scenes show that our readers thrive on experiencing Tennessee’s many natural wonders: trees sealed in winter’s icy glaze, blooming flowers welcoming spring’s arrival, families enjoying a summer dip in the lake and, of course, autumn’s splendor bathing the Great Smoky Mountains.
With nearly 2,400 entries, it was difficult to narrow the collection to just a few winners. But these selected photographs were the most compelling examples of the people, places and things that define Tennessee.
