Every day is employee appreciation day
In March, we celebrated Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day. In April, we observe National Lineman Appreciation Day. And throughout the year we celebrate all our crews and our administration. The special weeks, days and months dedicated to these groups of people are all great reminders for us to thank people who work often thankless jobs. I am thankful for each of these people every day.
Everyone at Fayetteville Public Utilities has a job to do, and he or she sees it through each day. I take pride in the can-do attitude of all our employees. This is especially true during times of inclement weather.
In February, we saw substantial flooding in Fayetteville and Lincoln County. During that time, we kept the water and wastewater plants fully manned, working around the clock to treat the water, keeping an eye on the water levels, monitoring the inflow and making sure we had enough supply in case the flooding caused additional issues.
All our crews were standing by, moving equipment to the south part of the county so it would be available if the Elk River bridge became impassable.
It is not just in times of need but every day that we should be thankful for the hard work and dedication of our people.

I am thankful for how our customer service representatives and dispatchers are here answering the phones, taking customers’ questions and getting information to our crews.
The dedication of our employees often means that their lives are frequently interrupted by the demands of our utilities. They get up at all times of the night and leave their families. Their lives, and the lives of their loved ones, are impacted by what happens with our utilities. These good people are the first-responders of the utility industry, and I personally appreciate all they do for FPU and our community.
FPU’s employees go above and beyond to restore utility services, working tirelessly, day or night, until the job is complete. It doesn’t matter which department is affected by an outage or leak; they all pitch in and care for our customers. It is that kind of employee commitment that we appreciate and celebrate.
