Will Ellis of Fayetteville High School and Alyssa Hampton of Riverside Christian Academy were selected to attend the 2019 Youth Leadership Summit sponsored by the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association and Fayetteville Public Utilities. The Summit was held March 3-6 at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville.
Each year, two junior class students (one boy and one girl) are chosen from each participating electric system’s service area to participate in the Youth Leadership Summit. Student applications are submitted to FPU from each local high school. Ellis and Hampton were selected based on their accomplishments and leadership roles that included participation in school organizations, church activities and community events.
This three-and-a-half-day seminar educated these young leaders about our state government and hometown rural electric systems, enhanced their leadership abilities and gave them an opportunity to meet state legislators on Capitol Hill. Other highlights included a tour of the State Capitol and an opportunity to listen to House and Senate committee meetings. The group also spent time at the Nashville YMCA learning teamwork and problem-solving while enhancing their leadership skills.

While at the summit, Ellis and Hampton heard from electric system employees on the importance of having a hometown utility in their communities.
Will Ellis is the son of Tim and Sonya Ellis of Petersburg. Alyssa Hampton is the daughter of Tommy and Susan Hampton of Fayetteville.
