For our latest Shutterbug Photography Contest, “Golden Hour,” we asked our readers to get out during those magical moments of the day — the hour or so after sunrise and again before sunset — and create striking images bathed in warm, soft light from a low-angle sun. Guest judge Lacy Atkins, an award-winning photographer, returned and helped our staff comb through more than 1,800 entries to select the winners.
The top photographs combine a grasp of technical fundamentals and the patience it takes to capture the perfect moment. Along with great lighting afforded by our “golden hour” theme, timing and composition are other elements that make these images winners.
