Join archaeologist Bill Lawrence for a boat tour and short hike to explore prehistoric Native American mounds at Reelfoot Lake (bus may be used depending on weather & wind).  For thousands of years before the lake was created by the earthquakes of 1811 and 12 Native Americans lived in the region and left their mark on the landscape by constructing dozens of mounds.
We will meet at Reelfoot Lake State Park visitor museum center at 1:15pm and take a boat tour over to an area that was once the site of a large prehistoric village. Mr. Lawrence has been involved in archaeological research at Reelfoot for more than 20 years and will share his extensive knowledge of the prehistoric residents of the region. We will take a short hike to visit an impressive group of Native American mounds that are seldom seen by visitors to Reelfoot. Please be sure to wear long pants, sturdy shoes or boots due to trail is strenuous.
