October is a time for cooler weather, vibrant colors on the trees as you drive home and perhaps your favorite sweater. It’s the month for cooking your favorite pot of chili, cheering on your football team and, of course, welcoming trick-or-treaters to your front door.
October is also a time to celebrate everything Tennessee’s electric cooperatives and other co-ops do for you and our communities. October is Co-op Month.
Co-ops have a tremendous impact on our state — not just during Co-op Month but year-round. October is a fitting time to highlight the impact our cooperatives have on the people and places we serve.
We connect communities with safe and reliable energy. At the heart of our mission is a deep commitment to powering homes, schools and businesses. Hand in hand with that comes a focus on safety. It is our No. 1 priority, not only for our crews but for your loved ones as well.
We connect young people with life-changing opportunities. Thanks to programs like the Washington Youth Tour and 4-H Electric Camp, our students are able to have exceptional educational experiences that will better prepare them for the workforce and to be the future leaders of our community.
We connect today and tomorrow. It is no secret that our world is changing faster than most of us can keep up with. Cooperatives are investing in the future of rural and suburban Tennessee. We’re building a robust and resilient electric grid to ensure that our infrastructure can meet the needs of our communities — regardless of what might lie ahead.
There are many types of cooperatives — agricultural, banking, telephone and, of course, electric. Regardless of the services they provide, though, all co-ops have something in common: a sincere desire to meet the needs of their communities. Co-ops are not-for-profit and governed by the people they serve. This ensures that our focus will always put people first.
This Co-op Month, remember that Tennessee’s electric cooperatives are here to build connections. We’re confident that through these connections, we can serve a higher purpose: to not only power our communities but to empower our members to live better lives. From our co‑ops to you, happy Co-op Month!
